Dick Harris has been a Consulting Pharmacist in Lake County Florida since 1947 and takes great pride in having been able to help thousands of people during those years. He and J. Russell Grant bought Smith's Drug Store (formerly Scott's Pharmacy for 40 years) and renamed to Grant-Harris Drug Store, Inc., which they operated until December, 1968. At that time, they sold to and joined Jack Eckerd Corporation. Dick retired in 1988, but occasionally works relief at Medicine Shoppe, Winter Garden, FL to stay close to his friends (customers and associates) and continue to help them with their needs.

Richard was born in Florence, S.C. December 22, 1922. His family moved to Graceville in 1924 where he attended school and graduated Valedictorian from GHS in 1940. He began college in 1940. At the beginning of World War II, he joined the U.S. Marines, where he earned a Field Commission, served as a Rifle Platoon Leader in the Pacific, was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart with a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Purple Heart. Presently, he is a Captain in the Retired Marine Reserve. He married his sweetheart, Audrey Miner, and returned to the University of Florida for his senior year. He graduated from the University of Florida Pharmacy School in 1947, earned his Florida Pharmacy License and moved to Lake County, first to Leesburg and in 1950, to Clermont.

Dick has been active in the Clermont Chamber of Commerce, Merchants Association, Clermont First Methodist Church, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts since 1950, the American Legion since 1945, and the Lions Club since 1948. He has been elected to offices and received honors & awards during the past 50 years. Some of these include: the "Lion of the Year" Award, two 100% Presidents Awards, the Key Award, the Master Key Award, the Senior Master Key Award, and in 1999, was named as a "Melvin Jones Fellow" (the highest form of recognition conferred by Lions Club International Foundation), the Jack Eckerd Public Service Award, the "4-Way" Award from the South Lake Rotary Club in 1979, a Congratulations Plaque from the Clermont, "Lend-a-Hand Club" in 1989, a Certificate of Appreciation in Recognition of Outstanding Community Service for 35 years from the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the State of Florida in 1989, the Merck Sharpe and Dohme Pharmacist Recognition Award in October 1991.

When Dick retired from full-time employment in 1988, March 31, 1989 was proclaimed "Dick Harris Day" by Mayor Robert A. Pool and the Clermont City Council. WESH Channel 2 in Orlando sent their mobile station to broadcast this event live noon news and taped a second segment for the 5:30 p.m. program.

Upon retirement, Dick wrote and published 2 books, "YESTERDAY'S REMEDIES FOR TODAY'S ILLS" and "MY DAD'S SAYINGS". Dick makes several excellent Remedies that his customers swear to their effectiveness over more expensive, highly advertised products and continues to promote them as he continues writing additional books.

Dick has always been a "people person" and makes it his personal Christian Ministry to continue helping people with their needs-especially that of obtaining and retaining Good Health and Wellness. On his www.rharrisinc.com website, Dick offers consulting at no charge.
